Doctor couple arrested for filing false robbery complaint
Doctor Trichy: The Thanjavur Town South police have arrested a doctor couple for allegedly giving false information and misleading the police by filing a fake robbery complaint, even though their jewellery was safely kept at home.
The couple had reported that burglars stole 60 sovereigns of gold and 4 kg of silver from their house earlier this month. However, during the investigation, police found that no gold jewellery had been stolen.
Police said the couple wasted police time and resources, following which they were arrested under Sections 212(a), 212(b), and 229(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

As per TOI, the incident occurred on January 8, when the doctors, one of whom owns a private hospital in Orathanadu, reported to Thanjavur Town South police station that their house was burgled on January 7 while they were away.
They listed several missing items, including a 12-sovereign necklace, 11-sovereign thali chain, 12-sovereign bangles, 10-sovereign periya chain, 5-sovereign rings, 7-sovereign earrings, 3-sovereign maattal, and approximately 4kg of silver puja items. The couple claimed that burglars broke open the front door and stole the valuables.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case and began an investigation. After checking CCTV footage, a team led by Inspector C Sudha and Sub-Inspector P Thennarasu identified a suspect, G Karthik Pandian (41), from Vilangudi in Madurai, and arrested him.
During questioning, the suspect said he had stolen only some kitchen vessels weighing about 1 kg, three bags, and two shirts. He told police that there was no gold jewellery or a large amount of silver in the house.
Further inquiry by Town DSP R Somasundaram and Inspector Sudha revealed that the couple’s jewellery was safely kept at their residence in Orathanadu.
The inspector said, "The couple deliberately exaggerated the loss and concealed the truth despite knowing the facts."
