Doctor's Car Damaged after concrete piece falls from elevated corridor
Coimbatore: In a troubling incident, the head of the Department of Radiology at Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH) narrowly escaped danger when a large piece of concrete fell on his luxury car’s windshield while traveling on Avinashi Road in Coimbatore.
This incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Friday when Dr. Cherian was driving his Audi E-tron, valued at over Rs 1 crore, between the Hope College and Fun Mall junctions.

According to The Hindu, “I was taken aback by an exploding sound as a heavy object fell on the windshield. The object fell off to the road, leaving the windshield broken,” he said. Not to cause a traffic obstruction on the busy road, he drove away and headed to his residence.
The doctor, who has not yet filed a formal complaint with the authorities or the police, mentioned that the cost of replacing the windshield was around Rs. 1 lakh.
Dr. Cherian pointed out that the real issue was not money, stressing that had the object fallen on a two-wheeler rider, the outcome could have been far more severe. He also noted that, given this was not the first such incident, it raised serious concerns about the safety of motorists in the area.

Speaking to the Hindu, K. Kathirmathiyon, a city-based consumer activist and member of the District Road Safety Committee, said, “This cannot be taken lightly as it is the second incident. A second incident indicates that the Highways Department and the contractor failed to take adequate safety measures. The contractor should be held accountable for the incident. There is no use in taking preventive measures or paying compensation after an untoward incident happens.”
In response to the incident, District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar assured that prompt action would be taken. He stated that he would instruct the relevant officials to implement adequate safety measures for motorists.
