Doctors remove 16-inch Bottle Gourd from patient's rectum at Chhatarpur District Hospital
Bhopal: In a surprising incident, a team of doctors at a district hospital in Chhatarpur successfully removed a 16-inch long bottle gourd (Lauki) from the rectum of a 60-year-old farmer in a two-hour operation.
As per media reports, the incident came to light when the patient suffering from severe abdominal pain was brought in critical condition at the hospital following which he was admitted.
When the doctors conducted tests and X-rays, it was revealed that a foreign object was present inside his body. Upon close examination, it was found that a bottle gourd had entered his body through the rectum.

The surgery took place on July 21 by a surgical team led by Dr Nandkishore Jatav, with Dr Manoj Chaudhary, Dr Ashish Shukla, and Dr Sanjay Maurya who successfully extracted the bottle gourd. Due to the size of the object and its unusual location, the surgery took approximately two hours.
As per a Republic World news report, the surgery revealed that the gourd had caused a rupture in the patient’s internal organs. However, the patient is now reported to be out of danger.
Although it is unclear how the bottle gourd entered the man's rectum, Dr Chaudhary based on his speculation told TOI, "It could be related to a testicular disorder, mental illness, or even an accident. An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances."
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that doctors at Sri Sundarlal Hospital in Banaras Hindu University (SSH, BHU) successfully performed a rare surgery to remove a 25 paise coin lodged in the trachea (windpipe) of a 40-year-old man for the past eight years.
