Doctors, Staff at Muktsar Hospital attacked by Armed Mob; Hospital vandalized
Muktsar: In an alleged case of violence against medical professionals, doctors and staff of Malwa Ortho Hospital on Muktsar-Kot Kapura Road were allegedly attacked by a group of miscreants after they protested against a man for molesting a female employee. The man, along with his associates, also vandalized hospital property during the incident.
According to Dr Arun Jain, the hospital's director, the accused followed the woman employee into the hospital, demanded her mobile number and began molesting her. When the doctors, and staff protested, he left but returned shortly after with a group of six to seven armed men. They were carrying swords and sticks.
The group vandalized the hospital by shattering glass window panes and trying to break open a door. They also tried to attack Dr Jain but failed as one employee and another man came to his rescue. However, the group assaulted these two individuals who intervened, including a patient's caretaker and fled the scene. Both suffered injuries.

Following the attack, the doctors and medical staff with the support of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) staged a sit-in protest by blocking the road outside the hospital for nearly two hours demanding strict action against the attackers. They claimed the law and order situation had deteriorated in the town.
Dr Arun Jain, Director of Malwa Ortho Hospital, told Amar Ujala, "A female staff member was returning from home to duty at around 10 am on Sunday. During this time, a young man followed her and reached the hospital. The young man started molesting the female staff member of the hospital. When he was stopped from doing so, he got angry. Once the young man left from there, but after some time he came to the hospital with his companions and started vandalizing the hospital as soon as he arrived."
After the police were informed, DSP Satnam Singh reached the spot and took note of the situation. He assured that stern action would be taken against the miscreants.
He told The Daily, "The main accused had been identified. Several criminal cases are registered against him earlier. An FIR is being registered in the case. The accused and his accomplices will be arrested soon."
