Dr Dilip Bhanushali takes over as new president of IMA
Hyderabad: Dr Dilip P Bhanushali has been appointed as the president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) during the 99th Annual All India Medical Conference, attended by 2,000 delegates from across the country. With over 40 years of experience, Dr. Bhanushali has provided exceptional treatment to countless patients, addressing a wide range of health issues.
Some of the departments that come under the doctor’s purview are neurology, dermatology, gastroenterology, diabetology, endocrinology, etc. Dr Bhanushali also treats other illnesses such as hair loss, asthma, and other acute and chronic illnesses. He has taken over as the new president of IMA during the 99th Annual All India Medical Conference with 2,000 delegates from across the country.
Giving advice to the upcoming generation of doctors, Dr Dilip Stated, “They should be sincere and hardworking while pursuing their goals.” Talking to Medical Dialogues, he stated, “ I think doctors have become an easy target for everyone. Hence, I would like to take steps regarding violence against doctors. Though there have been regulations in all the states, there is no unified regulation for violence. Hence, we need to work for a strong Central Act to ensure punishment for the culprits.”
“Secondly, the practice of mixopathy has also become rampant. We are not against promoting Allopathy or Homeopathy, we don’t want them to be mixed. Moreover, the Clinical Establishment Act (CEA) in its present form is becoming a burden on clinics, nursing homes, and small hospitals and it should not be imposed,” he added.
Dr Bhanushali began his medical journey with an MBBS degree from MR Medical College, Gulbarga, Karnataka University, in 1977. He then established and managed a 30-bed maternity and general nursing home in Kachiguda, Hyderabad, from 1980 to 1985, before running a daycare clinic at the same location until 2017. Driven by a commitment to enhance his expertise, Dr Bhanushali pursued specialized training abroad to further his medical skills.
In 1985, he completed a course in Basic and Advanced Life Support in Pittsburgh, USA. He followed this with an intensive course in G.I. Endoscopy at Allegany General Hospital in 1989 and a month-long laparoscopic surgery training at the University of Cologne, Germany, in 1991. Dr Bhanushali performed one of the first laparoscopic surgeries at CDR Hospital, Hyderabad, alongside Dr. Surendra Ugale in 1991.
A life member of several prestigious organizations, Dr Bhanushali has played a pivotal role in the Indian Medical Association (IMA). He has been associated with IMA for the last 40 years. He served as Joint Secretary and Secretary of the Hyderabad City Branch multiple times, eventually becoming its President from 1999 to 2000. His contributions extended to the state level, where he held positions such as Vice President and Chairman of the Financial Resource Board of IMA Andhra Pradesh. He also served as the Secretary of the College of General Practitioners in Hyderabad for 15 years.
Dr Bhanushali’s illustrious career has been marked by numerous accolades. He received the National President’s Appreciation Awards for his roles as Secretary in 1998 and President in 2000 of the IMA Hyderabad City Branch. He was honoured with a Gold Medal for Best Secretary at the IMA State Conference in Guntur and was felicitated on Doctors’ Day in 2002 for his exceptional contributions to the medical fraternity. Among his other recognitions, he was the recipient of the prestigious Dhanvantri Award.
Beyond his medical practice, Dr Bhanushali has been instrumental in organizing numerous medical conferences, continuing medical education (CME) programs, and health check-up camps. He played a key role in conducting the National Conference of IMA in 1995 and several other academic events, including the Annual Refresher Courses and the Annual Academic Conference of the College of General Practitioners in Hyderabad.
