Dr Dilip Mhaisekar Appointed As New Administrator Of Maharashtra Medical Council
Mumbai: Director of Medical Education and Research (DMER) Dr Dilip Mhaisekar has been appointed as the administrator of the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) by the Maharashtra Medical Education Department on Wednesday.
He has been selected as the new administrator of MMC in place of J J hospital dean Pallavi Saple as her one-year tenure ended on October 9.
Hence, Dr Dilip Mhaisekar has been given the additional charge with immediate effect.
As per a media report in TOI, Dr Dilip will serve his duties as the administrator until a new council is constituted. Apart from taking the additional charge, Dr Dilip will also be able to continue his current position as the medical education director.

A notification issued by Vaishali Sule, deputy secretary of the department on October 30 confirmed the appointment of Dr Dilip Mhaisekar after relieving Dr Pallavi Saple of her additional charge as Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC).
The decision to appoint Dr Dilip Mhaisekar was made by medical education minister Hasan Mushrif due to a delay in MMC elections since it would take time to amend the rules. The extension for Saple was expected until the MMC elections took place.
When questioned, Mushrif told the daily "Saple had two heavy responsibilities as J J Hospital dean and MMC administrator. Her term was over, and I had to appoint someone, hence Mhaisekar was appointed. We will make a regular appointment in 15 days.”
Dr Dilip Mhaisekar was a professor of pulmonary medicine and an experienced Bronchoscopist in the Clinical Pulmonology Field who performed more than One Thousand Bronchoscopies to date. He also has a special interest in Bronchoscopic interventions. He is also a sleep physician who performed more than Five Hundred sleep studies to date and guided three postgraduate students in their research on sleep studies. Earlier, he was the VC of the Maharashtra Health Sciences University, Nashik.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported the appointment of J J Hospital's Dean, Dr Pallavi as the administrator of the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) on October 2022. She was appointed for a period of one year or till the elections were held.
Speaking to HT, Suhas Pingle, a former MMC member, said "On October 26, Sanjay Deshmukh, the registrar of the MMC, was relieved of his charge and sent back to his original department in the Maharashtra University of Medical Sciences."
“On October 30, Dr Mhaisekar, who is director of medical education, got an additional charge of MMC. The administrator is the council by himself in the absence of an elected body, while Shilpa Parab, who is the registrar of the state dental council, got additional charge of MMC. She has also been appointed returning officer for the forthcoming MMC elections. As per the MMC act, the returning officer has to be an officer of undersecretary rank. The entire chronology of events suggests that there is something more to it than meets the eye," adds Pingle.
Maharashtra Medical Council is the oldest body and successor body of the old Bombay Medical Council, which was established in September 1912 and was in existence till the bifurcation of the old Bombay State.
