Dr Hameed Raina wins 4th International Award for advanced endoscopy procedures

Srinagar: Renowned Kashmiri gastroenterologist Dr. Hameed Raina has once again earned international acclaim for his expertise in advanced endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and cutting-edge gastroenterology procedures, securing his fourth global honour in recent years.
According to Kashmir Dot Com, Dr Raina secured the Best Video Award for the second time at the International Hepatopancreatic Biliary Conference, held in Dubai in 2025. Dr Raina is the first Kashmiri gastroenterologist to achieve such an international honour in the specialised field of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and interventional endoscopy.
At the conference, Dr. Raina showcased his clinical work titled “EUS-Guided Cystogastrostomy and Direct Endoscopic Necrosectomy (DEN) in Post-Pancreatitis Walled-Off Necrosis,” a sophisticated, minimally invasive technique used to treat severe pancreatic complications. His presentation drew strong praise from experts worldwide for its innovation, accuracy, and significant contribution to improving patient outcomes, further enhancing Jammu and Kashmir’s standing in the field of medical excellence.
Dr Raina is a Gastroenterologist, Hepatologist, and Therapeutic Endoscopist and Endosonographer (EUS), Third Space and Bariatric Endoscopist. He did his MBBS from the Government Medical College, Srinagar and completed his post-graduation MD in Internal Medicine from Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS). He then pursued a DM in Gastroenterology and Hepatology from Tata Hospital, Mumbai (2016-2019) and further enhanced his qualifications with the MRCP-UK certification.
Driven by a fervent commitment to advancing his skills, he pursued several super-specialized fellowships, including motility disorders, pH metry (FMPB), Diagnostic and Therapeutic Endoscopic ultrasound (FEUS), Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy (FATE), and Third Space Endoscopy (FTSE) at renowned global centres.
His areas of interest cover a broad range of adult and pediatric gastrointestinal, liver, pancreaticobiliary diseases, and Obesity. I'm an expert in diagnosing and managing complex cases like early gastrointestinal cancers, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Motility Gastrointestinal disorders, small bowel diseases with capsule Endoscopy and Enteroscopy. He has skills in diagnostic and Interventional Gastrointestinal and mediastinal EUS (including EUS-guided biopsies, pseudocyst drainage, gallbladder, pancreatic, and Biliary drainage, Gastrojejunostomy, and variceal coiling), as well as third-space endoscopy (such as POEM, ESD, STER, and EFTR). He also performs direct endoscopic necrosectomy (DEN) for peripancreatic Necrotic collections.
He introduced several advanced endoscopic procedures such as POEM for achalasia cardia, POES for Zenker’s Diverticulum, STER, and EFTR for submucosal tumor removal, G-POEM for Gastroparesis and EUS-guided liver biopsy, and EUS EUS-guided coiling of Rectal Varices. These innovations highlight his pioneering spirit and dedication to advancing medical practices.
Expressing his gratitude, Dr Raina told The Daily, “It is a moment of immense pride to represent Kashmir on such a prestigious international platform and to be recognised for advancing cutting-edge medical techniques among global gastroenterologists and surgeons. I owe this award to my parents and my entire family.”
