Dr O. P. Yadav Conferred Honorary Doctor of Science by Dr NTR University of Health Sciences
Justice S. Abdul Nazeer, Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Chancellor of Dr NTR University of Health Sciences, presents the honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc. Honoris Causa) to Dr O.P. Yadav during the University's combined 27th and 28th Annual Convocations in Vijayawada.
Vijaywada: Dr OP Yadav, a highly acclaimed cardiothoracic surgeon and Chief Executive Officer of the National Heart Institute (NHI), New Delhi, has been conferred the prestigious honorary Doctor of Science (DSc Honoris Causa) by Dr NTR University of Health Sciences.
The honorary degree was presented in recognition of his exceptional advancements in cardiac surgery, dedicated medical education, extensive research, and healthcare leadership.
The honor was bestowed during the university’s combined 27th and 28th Annual Convocations, held at the Tummalapalli Vari Kshetraiah Kala Kshetram in Vijayawada.
The honorary doctorate was presented to Dr. Yadav by Justice S. Abdul Nazeer, the Honorable Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Chancellor of the University, amidst a gathering of distinguished medical professionals, faculty, and graduating students.
With a career spanning more than four decades, Dr. Yadav is internationally recognized as a pioneer in modern cardiovascular surgery in India. He has been at the forefront of introducing and refining cutting-edge surgical modalities, including:
Beating-heart (off-pump) coronary artery bypass surgery
Minimally invasive cardiac surgery
Total arterial revascularization
His clinical work has significantly advanced surgical outcomes and safety benchmarks across the country.
Beyond the operating theater, Dr. Yadav has maintained a deep commitment to nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals. As a mentor, he has trained numerous cardiac surgeons and contributed heavily to global scientific literature. He has also shaped the academic landscape of the specialty in India through his past tenure as the Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
Dr. Yadav’s lifelong dedication to medicine has previously earned him several of the country's highest medical honors.
Dr. B.C. Roy National Award: Conferred by the President of India, this is one of the highest and most prestigious medical honors in the country.
Lifetime Achievement Award (2006): Bestowed upon him by the former Hon'ble President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, honoring his continuous contribution to medical science.
Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award (1992): Awarded early in his career for outstanding contributions to medical advancements.
Elite Fellowships: He holds highly respected fellowships across prominent global and national societies, including the National Academy of Medical Sciences (MNAMS), the Indian Association of Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgeons (FIACS), and the Cardiological Society of India (FCSI).
