Dr. O.P. Yadava, CEO of National Heart Institute and renowned cardiovascular surgeon, to lead India's premier body of cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons
New Delhi: Eminent cardiovascular surgeon Dr OP Yadav has been elected President-Elect of the Indian Association of Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgeons (IACTS) for the 2028-29 term during the association's Annual Conference held at the Jio World Convention Centre, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai.
The conference also marked the official transition of leadership and the announcement of the association's annual resolutions.
Speaking to Medical Dialogues Dr O.P. Yadav said" I am deeply honoured and humbled by the trust reposed in me by my colleagues. IACTS has played a pivotal role in advancing cardiovascular and thoracic surgery in India, and I look forward to working with the entire fraternity to further strengthen academic excellence, innovation, research, and quality patient care. Together, we will continue to build on the Association's rich legacy and prepare our specialty for the future."
Dr. Yadav is the CEO and Chief Cardiac Surgeon at the National Heart Institute, New Delhi, and is internationally recognised for his contributions to cardiovascular surgery. With more than four decades of surgical experience, he is regarded as a pioneer of beating-heart (off-pump) coronary artery bypass surgery, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, and total arterial revascularisation, having played a pivotal role in advancing these techniques in India.
In addition to his clinical accomplishments, Dr. Yadav has made significant contributions to academic medicine and surgical education. He previously served as Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, has authored numerous scientific publications, delivered invited lectures at national and international conferences, and mentored generations of cardiovascular surgeons.
Dr. Yadava is a recipient of the prestigious Dr. B.C. Roy Award, one of the highest honours in the Indian medical profession. He has also made significant contributions to healthcare policy through his participation in several professional and government committees dedicated to advancing cardiac care across the country.
His election as President-Elect reflects the confidence reposed in his leadership by the cardiothoracic surgical fraternity. In his new role, Dr. Yadav is expected to strengthen surgical education, foster research and innovation, promote mentorship of young surgeons, and further advance the quality and accessibility of cardiovascular surgical care across India.
The Indian Association of Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgeons (IACTS) is India's premier professional organisation representing cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons and is committed to promoting excellence in patient care, education, research, and professional development.
