Dr P Raghu Ram sets Guinness World Record with AI-Powered Holographic Health Lecture

Hyderabad: Dr P. Raghu Ram, a renowned breast cancer surgeon and Founding Director of KIMS-Ushalakshmi Centre for Breast Diseases, has set a new Guinness World Record for hosting the world’s largest audience for an interactive AI-powered holographic health awareness lecture, marking a unique milestone in the intersection of medicine and artificial intelligence.

The achievement marks Dr. Raghu Ram's third Guinness World Record in just 15 months. According to the news reports, the record-setting event featured an AI-generated holographic avatar of Dr Raghu Ram delivering a comprehensive breast health awareness lecture. The virtual presentation also engaged the audience in a live interactive session, answering questions in multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. The AI educator provided information on breast diseases, breast cancer, screening methods, and the importance of early detection.

The Guinness World Records title was awarded under a newly introduced category recognising innovation in AI-enabled holographic health education.

The event also marked the launch of NARI (National Awareness & Resource Initiative for Breast Health), an AI-powered digital platform designed to provide round-the-clock, evidence-based breast health information. The platform allows users to ask questions and receive guidance in multiple Indian languages, aiming to bridge awareness gaps, particularly in underserved communities.

Speaking at the event, National Medical Commission Chairman Dr Abhijat Sheth praised the initiative, saying, "This is not merely a record, but a public health innovation with the potential to benefit countless individuals."

Dedicating the honour to his late mother, Dr Ushalakshmi, a breast cancer survivor and gynaecologist, Dr Raghu Ram said, "Awareness, early detection and hope can save lives", as reported by NDTV.

KIMS Hospitals Chairman Bhaskar Rao said the project demonstrates how artificial intelligence can be responsibly used to expand health education and public engagement at scale.

In a recent post on X, M. Venkaiah Naidu, Former Vice President of India, praised the achievement of P. Raghu Ram, noting his third Guinness World Records title in just 15 months. He wrote that he was “delighted to learn” about Dr Raghu Ram’s accomplishment and highlighted the significance of the milestone in public service.

Dr Raghu Ram highlighted the growing burden of breast cancer in India. He said breast cancer cases are increasingly being diagnosed among younger women, with the peak age group between 40 and 50 years. Due to a lack of awareness, social taboos, and the absence of organised screening programmes, nearly 60 per cent of women reach hospitals with advanced-stage disease. "Every four minutes, a woman in India is diagnosed with breast cancer, and every eight minutes, a woman dies from the disease. Early detection remains the best cure," he said, reports NDTV.

Dr Raghu Ram stressed the need for a strong national cancer registry and expanded screening programmes under the National Health Mission.

He welcomed efforts by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strengthen cancer registration and screening across the country, noting that accurate data collection remains a major gap in India’s cancer response. He also pointed out that many cancer cases in India still go unregistered, affecting planning and intervention strategies.

Referring to Telangana, he said, “Population-based screening initiatives have helped bring down the burden of advanced cancers and demonstrated the value of early detection programmes.”

Dr Raghu Ram’s journey in cancer awareness was deeply influenced by his mother’s diagnosis in 2002, which led him to establish the Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation and South Asia’s first comprehensive breast disease centre in Hyderabad in 2007. A graduate of Siddhartha Medical College, he later trained in the United Kingdom and earned a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1996. In recognition of his contributions to healthcare, he was awarded the Padma Shri in 2015.
