Lucknow: Dr Sanchit Tyagi, an Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer from Agra has been appointed as the Director of Sports Authority of India (SAI).
The Ministry of Railways has recently issued an order stating that Dr Tyagi has been selected for deputation to Sports Authority of India, New Delhi as Director for a period of three years 'from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.'
"His overall tenure of deputation will be counted from the date of his initial deputation to National Book Trust i.e. 11/01/2021. The officer may please be relieved to take up the new assignment in Sports Authority of India (SAI) and date of relief may be intimated to this office," added the order.
Dr Tyagi stated he would like to focus on promoting sports culture across the country for the next three years.
Dr. Sanchit completed his MBBS from Shyam Shah Medical College, Reva, Madhya Pradesh in 2004. Dr. Sanchit was selected for the Indian Railway Traffic Service (UPSC). Tyagi, from the isolated village of Burj Atibal in the Etmadpur block of Agra, succeeded in his first attempt in the public service and began working for the Indian Railway Service in 2013. He also served as Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Prayagraj.
During his tenure as senior divisional commercial manager, he was instrumental in organizing train operations during the 2019 Kumbh Mela. Since 2021, Tyagi has been serving as joint director of the National Book Trust of India.
Sanjay Kumar, senior divisional operation manager (freight) in Jhansi told Times of India, "During the pandemic, Tyagi -the co-founder of SETU helpline-- ensured that the maximum passengers could obtain food and water services during their journey, which railway and local administration had arranged." He added, “Tyagi often went beyond the call of duty to help the needy. In one such case, he along with his doctor-father (Dr Narendra Deo, Agra-based oncologist) arranged free cancer treatment for an acquaintance of a railway staff.”
