Dr Shashibala Singh takes over as Interim Director of RIMS Ranchi

Ranchi: Dr Shashibala Singh has been appointed as the interim director of the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi. The decision was made by the RIMS governing council, and an official notification confirming Dr Singh’s appointment was issued on Friday.
The appointment was made following the sudden removal of Dr Raj Kumar. Dr Kumar’s removal comes in the wake of serious allegations related to non-compliance and unsatisfactory performance.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that within a few months of being appointed as the Director of RIMS, Ranchi, Dr Raj Kumar has been recently removed from his position on the grounds of negligence in fulfilling his duties, delay in departmental work, and failure to follow government instructions. The decision was taken by the governing council of the institute, which recommended his removal to the state health department.
According to the removal order, Dr Kumar did not meet the institutional goals as outlined under the RIMS Act of 2002. He was relieved of his duties with immediate effect under Rule 9 (vi) of the RIMS Rules, 2002, and will be provided with three months' salary as per the provision. Dr Kumar had been appointed for a three-year term beginning January 31, 2024, with the approval of the state government.
The institute observed that he often deliberately ignored official orders and did not cooperate in carrying out important tasks, which led to pending departmental work. Allegations have emerged that he favoured certain individuals in promotions despite contrary directions from the authorities. Sources also revealed that Dr Kumar had a confrontation with the additional chief secretary during a recent meeting of the governing council, which may have further contributed to the decision to remove him, reports the Times of India.
Reacting to these allegations, Dr Kumar informed the Daily, "This is a clear misuse of power. These allegations are meant to defame me. I challenge anyone to prove that I brought disrepute to the govt – if proven, I will leave the country. This is a pattern where those who expose the truth are targeted. Such autocratic behaviour cannot be tolerated."
