Elderly MBBS doctor abused, beaten blue and black by society worker
Pune: An elderly MBBS doctor was abused and beaten brutally with a bamboo stick by a man (society worker) who was barred from entering a society's premises keeping in mind the surging Covid-19 cases. The medical practitioner sustained serious injuries in the assault and both his hands got fractured.
An FIR has been lodged under section 325 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) following a complaint by the doctor and the accused has been arrested. However, further investigation is pending, claims the doctor.
The 55-year-old Pune-based doctor has been serving at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and he is also the acting chairman of his society. He has been residing with his wife in the society since 2011. The doctor became the acting chairman of the society on January 28, 2021.
In his complaint, the doctor mentioned that the accused used to visit the society every morning at 5:30 a.m. to wash the vehicles of the society's members. Two or three of his friends also used to accompany him. However, the society members complained that they were not comfortable with the men washing their cars especially amidst the pandemic and the COVID restrictions.
Acting on the complaints, the doctor instructed the society's security guards not to allow them inside the premises.
The doctor in his complaint, further elaborated that on April 5, 2021, he was returning from a temple located on the premises of the society and when he was about to reach the society's gate, the accused suddenly appeared with his tempo and started hurling abuses at him. A heated conversation took place and suddenly he attacked the doctor with a bamboo stick. The doctor alleged that the accused assaulted the doctor as he held the previous grudge against the doctor for not allowing him into society's premises.
The accused allegedly hit him in his hand, back, and legs. His limbs secured serious injuries and he also received fractures on both of his hands. Two members of the society spotted the assault and intervened.

The doctor told the Pune Mirror, "I suffered serious injuries and was lying in blood, but the accused kept beating and abusing me. While hitting me with the stick, he was continuously asking why he was not allowed to enter into society. I'm genuinely surprised that the police did not take any action. My wife took me to a hospital in such a precarious COVID situation."
