Exorbitant Fees charged for Registration of Medical Degrees in Telangana: Doctors write to State Medical Council
Hyderabad: Expressing concern over exorbitant fee for registration of various medical degrees in Telangana, the Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) has recently written to the State Medical Council in this regard.
Writing to the Registrar and Council members of TSMC, HRDA pointed out that the revised fee structure notification issued by TSMC (with effect from July 1, 2022) for registration of various medical degrees are exorbitant when compared to the neighbouring states.
The association also mentioned the fees charged by other states for registration of medical degrees and compared the same with the fees applicable for Telangana. For instance, Telangana charges Rs 2000 for provisional registration, while Maharashtra and Karnataka charge merely Rs 500 and Kerala charges Rs 1000 only.
If a candidate applies for final registration, they need to pay Rs 4000 in Telangana, while the fee in Maharashtra and Karnataka is Rs 2000 and it is Rs 3000 in Kerala.
The difference can be noted for PG Diploma and Degree registration as well. In case of registration of PG Diploma, the fee is Rs 2500 in Telangana, Rs 1000 in Maharashtra and Karnataka and Rs 2000 in Kerala.
Maharashtra charges the minimal amount as the fee for PG Degree Registration in the State is Rs 120 only, when in contrast doctors in Telangana need to pay Rs 4000 for this. For this purpose, the doctors in Karnataka need to pay Rs 1000 while the Kerala doctors need to pay Rs 2000.
There is a striking difference between these two states regarding the Registration of Superspeciality degrees as well. While the doctors in Maharashtra pay only Rs 120, those belonging to Telangana need to spend Rs 7000 for this purpose.
Apart from this, doctors in Telangana need to pay Rs 2000 for renewal of registration and Rs 3000 for NOC. On the other hand, doctors in Maharashtra pay only Rs 500 and Rs 120 respectively.
Referring to such a huge difference between the fee structure for registration of medical degrees, HRDA mentioned in the letter dated 22.07.2022, "Exorbitant registration charges will cause burden on graduates & post-graduates and will also lead to commercialization of profession."
"Hence sir, we urge you to revoke the revised fee structure notification in interest of medical fraternity and public health," the letter further mentioned.
