New Delhi: In an unfortunate incident, a senior resident doctor at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling using the bedsheet of the hotel room where he was staying in Daria, Chandigarh.
According to police, the doctor was facing a legal trouble after a female colleague filed a zero FIR against him on charges of attempted rape. They believed that the ongoing investigation and court proceedings caused him severe stress, which may have played a major role in his mental distress, leading him to take the extreme step.

The incident took place on Sunday after the doctor had travelled to Chandigarh, reportedly to consult a local advocate through an acquaintance regarding the case. He had checked into Deep Hotel on April 30. On Sunday, hotel staff found the room locked from the inside. When there was no response from the doctor, the police were called. They broke open the door and found him hanging from the ceiling fan with a bedsheet.
During the preliminary investigation, the police recovered documents from the room related to a legal case he was involved in. Going through it, the police came to know that a female colleague of his had filed an attempt to rape complaint against him in March 2025 in Delhi. The FIR was later transferred to the Adarsh Nagar Police Station in Faridabad.
As per an Indian Express news report, the doctor had recently applied for anticipatory bail in the case, but his request was rejected by the court. Following this, he was mentally distressed and was reportedly fed up due to the ongoing legal issues and investigation.
After finding his lifeless body hanging in the hotel room, the police sent his body for a postmortem at a government hospital. After the examination was over, his body was handed over to his family.
Preliminary investigation of the police suggests that no foul play was involved, indicating that the case is a suicide.
