Fake Ayurvedic Doctor Flees With Gold After Gaining Couple’s Trust

Nalgonda: In a shocking incident, an unidentified man posing as an Ayurvedic doctor from Kerala allegedly cheated a woman of gold ornaments weighing four tolas at Pochampally in Yadadri-Bhongir district.

According to the complaint, the accused arrived at the couple's house on a motorcycle in Pochampally and introduced himself as an Ayurvedic practitioner offering infertility treatment. He reportedly gained their confidence by claiming he could help them conceive.

Police said the accused later sent the husband to a nearby shop to procure ingredients required for the so-called treatment. Taking advantage of the woman being alone at home, the accused allegedly instructed her to apply oil and take a bath before the procedure, stating that the treatment would not be effective if she wore gold ornaments.

Believing his claims, the woman removed her gold jewellery weighing about four tolas and kept it in the house. However, when she returned after the bath, the accused had reportedly fled with the ornaments.

Based on her complaint, Pochampally police registered a case and launched an investigation. Officers said CCTV footage from the surrounding area was being examined to identify and trace the suspect, reports the Deccan Chronicle.

The incident adds to a series of cases in which individuals posing as doctors have cheated unsuspecting victims.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that a woman medical officer working at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar was allegedly duped of Rs 1.30 lakh by a man posing as a fake doctor. The accused was later arrested by Mancheswar police on the charges of cheating and criminal intimidation. According to news reports, the accused contacted the woman through a matrimonial website, claiming that he was a doctor employed in Pune.
