Fake doctors putting lives at risk, Hyderabad police warns public
Hyderabad: Fake doctors are putting innocent lives at risk in the name of medical treatment, Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar has warned, urging citizens to remain vigilant and verify the credentials of medical practitioners before seeking treatment.
The Commissioner said police have launched a special surveillance drive against fake medical practitioners, during which 12 individuals posing as doctors have been identified and legal action initiated against them.
According to the Commissioner, these individuals were impersonating qualified medical professionals and prescribing antibiotics, steroids, medicines for blood pressure and diabetes, besides administering injections and intravenous fluids without proper medical assessment. “Such irresponsible treatment practices could lead to serious health complications among patients,” he said, reports Telangana Today.
The Commissioner appealed to members of the public to verify the credentials of doctors before seeking medical treatment. Citizens have also been advised to check whether clinics and hospitals prominently display the official registration certificate issued by the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) at their reception areas.
Patients should also examine doctors’ display boards, which are required to mention the doctor’s name, educational qualifications, and registration number issued by the Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC).
Citizens can independently verify the registration details of doctors through the official Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) website. The council’s Doctor Search facility allows users to check a practitioner’s credentials using their name or registration number.
Police have advised people to exercise caution if a doctor’s registration details cannot be found through the official records.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that in a shocking incident, Hyderabad police arrested a 42-year-old man for allegedly posing as a doctor and illegally treating patients without any recognised medical qualifications in Warasiguda. The accused, a native of Bhupalpally district, is said to have studied only up to the Intermediate level and did not possess any valid medical, clinical, or pharmacy certification.
