FIR against Gwalior hospital superintendent, HoD Nephrology over sexual harassment allegations

Gwalior: An FIR has been registered against two senior doctors- the Superintendent of the hospital and the Head of the Nephrology Department, at Jaya Arogya Super Speciality Hospital in Gwalior, for allegedly molesting a nursing officer and making caste-based slurs after she refused their advances.
The complainant, a 27-year-old nursing staff member, a resident of Gwalior, in a written complaint, alleged that senior doctors allegedly molested her on the pretext of job security.
According to news reports, the incident took place on Tuesday when the nursing officer had gone to the Nephrology department's HOD chamber to have her application marked and to receive the acknowledgement.

The woman told police that when she entered the chamber, “The doctor said if you want to get your job secured, you must compromise for sexual favour. Otherwise, I will transfer you somewhere and you won’t be able to work”, news agency IANS reported.
According to the TOI news report, the Police said the doctor then held the nursing officer's hand with malicious intent. When the woman tried to free herself, the doctor allegedly used casteist language and issued threats, stating that no action could be taken against him.
The complainant further alleged that the accused also instructed her to meet another person, and when she refused to obey his instructions, he grabbed her hand and touched her inappropriately.
Distressed by the incident, the nurse reportedly confided in her parents, following which a formal complaint was lodged.
Confirming the report, SHO (Kampoo police station) Amar Singh Sikarwar said that the nurse, along with her parents, had visited at police station and lodged a complaint on Tuesday night.
“An FIR has been registered based on the nurse’s complaint, and both doctors have been booked under Section 74, 75, 351 and SC/ST Act of the BNS. Investigation into the matter is underway, and further action would be taken accordingly,” SHO said.
