Former PGIMER professor Dr Ramesh Kumar Sen elected president of Indian Orthopaedic Association

Shimla: Dr Ramesh Kumar Sen from Himachal Pradesh has been elected the president of the Indian Orthopaedic Association (IOA).
Dr Sen is a MS, DNB, PhD (Orthopaedics). He worked at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Fortis Hospital Mohali and is currently serving as a senior director of orthopaedics at Max Hospital, Mohali.
The doctor hails from Sundernagar in Mandi district and he served as Professor at PGI, Chandigarh before retiring in 2014. He has over 28 years of experience in Orthopaedic surgery, including 20 years as Faculty at PGIMER. He was elevated as Professor in the Department Of Orthopaedics, PGIMER in 2008. He has expertise in joint replacement surgery, including the rich experience of handling revision hip and knee arthroplasty surgeries.
After getting basic Orthopaedic education in India, Prof Sen Received further training in Germany and USA. He has also pioneered the role of stem cell treatment in AVN disease of the hip joint and holds significant experience in complex joint replacements revision hip and knee arthroplasty and complicated trauma. He completed his M.B.B.S. in 1982 and MS Ortho in 1987 from IGMC Shimla. He pursued his D.N.B. Ortho degree in 1988 at the National Board Exam New Delhi after which he completed his PhD Orthopaedics in 2008 from PGIMER Chandigarh.
In the past, he was elected as the first president of 'Association of Pelvi Acetabular Surgeons of India' and also the president of 'North Zone Orthopaedic Association'. He has been a Visiting Professor in Germany and USA, in addition to having been invited as Guest Speaker in more than 25 countries. He is the, recipient of the highest research award of SAARC countries as well as of Indian Orthopaedic Association(IOA). He has been the Chairperson of Research Foundation as well as Vice President of IOA.
Prof Sen also holds the patent for a new pelvic plate for the reconstruction of acetabulum fractures. Many oration honours and awards have been conferred upon him across the country and he has also conducted many workshops on surgical techniques for Orthopaedic surgeons in various places of South East Asia. As the President of IOA, Dr. Sen stated, " The IOA will focus this year to have regular courses of surgical skill training for our younger colleagues."
