Gandhi Medical College MD Forensic Medicine arrested for selling drugs

Hyderabad: A doctor pursuing post-graduation in forensic medicine at Gandhi Medical College and Hospital has been arrested for allegedly selling narcotic substances from his rented house. Drugs worth Rs 3 lakh were seized from his possession, and three others have been booked in connection with the case.

Investigations revealed that the accused allegedly procured the drugs from Nigerian-based peddlers in Delhi and Bengaluru and sold them to drug addicts in Hyderabad.

The 29-year-old final-year PG medico, who earned a monthly stipend of Rs 60,000, was also reportedly addicted to drugs and entered the trade with his friends as he did not have enough money to buy drugs for himself.

The doctor got addicted during his postgraduate training. He first tried ganja during his early days at the Gandhi Hospital hostel and later got involved in the illegal drug business to earn more money.

As per the IANS report, the raid was conducted by the Prohibition and Excise officials and the NTF (Narcotics Task Force), who searched the house of the doctor in the Musheerabad area based on a credible tip-off.

During the search, the officials found 26.95 g of OG Kush ganja, 6.21g of MDMA, 15 LSD blots, 1.32g of cocaine, 5.8g of ganja gummies, and 0.008g of hashish oil from the doctor’s premises, worth Rs 3 lakh and seized them. The accused was allegedly running the racket along with his three friends. They were using his house to stock and sell drugs, offering him free narcotics in return.

Excise STF SI Balaraju told TOI, "He confessed that he became habituated to drug consumption through his friends, one, a doctor from Musheerabad; second, a private worker from Musheerabad; and third, a private worker from Nallakunta. He would source the narcotics through the trio from Delhi and Bengaluru-based suppliers. The contraband used to be kept at his room for personal consumption and sale to other customers."

"He confessed that due to a lack of sufficient funds to buy drugs for his personal use, he entered the narcotics business along with his three friends. His third friend contacts a Delhi-based supplier, who in turn informs the Bengaluru-based supplier. The Bengaluru supplier dead-drops drugs in the city, and one of us picks up the stash from Bengaluru," the accused told the officials.

The Musheerabad excise team has registered a case against the doctor and the trio under the NDPS Act. The trio are absconding, and the excise police have launched a hunt for them. Meanwhile, the doctor was remanded to judicial custody on Tuesday.
