City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy told PTI that Prajwal was previously a medical student at a private college in Mangaluru and had three drug-related cases registered at different police stations in the city.
During the investigation of this case, Peenyas played a key role in sourcing drugs from Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh and distributing them in the city. The investigation in this regard began with interrogations of local drug users, which led police to a network of nine individuals allegedly supplying drugs in Mangaluru. All have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
According to police, the latest case was registered on July 2 at the City Central Crime (CEN) police station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The Commissioner said that a mobile phone reportedly used in the drug transactions has also been seized.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested an MBBS doctor along with eight other individuals for their alleged involvement in a sophisticated smuggling network that spanned across five states, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.
In a post on X, a doctor highlighted a disturbing trend-highly educated individuals, including an engineer, an MBA graduate, and an MBBS doctor, were allegedly involved in an international drug trafficking network.
