Gandhinagar Paediatrician Drowns in Narmada Canal

Doctor Drowns in Strong Canal Currents Near Gandhinagar
Ahmedabad: In a tragic incident, a Gandhinagar-based paediatrician drowned in the Adalaj Narmada canal on Saturday afternoon while performing a religious ritual with his seven-year-old daughter. He reportedly slipped and was swept away by a strong current.
According to the news reports, the deceased, Dr. Nirav Brahmbhatt, a resident of Anashya Greens Society in Vavol, Gandhinagar, had taken his daughter to the canal to help her immerse offerings as part of the Gauri Vrat ritual.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m., while Dr. Brahmbhatt was placing the offerings in the water. He is said to have lost his footing and been swept away by the strong canal current.

Though he had ensured his daughter stood at a safe distance, the child reportedly began screaming in panic as she saw her father struggle in the water. Her cries for help alerted nearby rickshaw drivers and passersby, some of whom rushed to the scene. A few individuals bravely jumped into the water and managed to pull the doctor out after a difficult effort.
By then, however, he had reportedly swallowed a significant amount of water. He was immediately rushed to the Adalaj Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors administered CPR and other emergency interventions. Despite their efforts, Dr. Brahmbhatt could not be revived and was declared dead shortly after arrival.
His wife, a medical officer at Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, arrived at the CHC soon after being informed of the incident. The Adalaj police registered a case of accidental death.
