GMC Jammu Dr Vishal R Tandon honoured with Fellowship of National Academy of Medical Sciences
Jammu: Dr Vishal R Tandon, a distinguished faculty member from Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, has been awarded the prestigious Fellowship of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS).
This fellowship, governed under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, is a mark of recognition for medical scientists, researchers, and academicians who have demonstrated academic excellence and professional achievements, contributing significantly to the medical field at state, national, and international levels.
Dr Tandon joins an elite group of fellows from Jammu & Kashmir, including eminent personalities such as Prof. Dr Nasib Singh Pathania, Founder Principal of GMC Jammu, and Prof. Dr Ravinder Madan, former Principal and Member of the Public Service Commission. This rare distinction acknowledges Dr Tandon’s significant contributions in various areas such as medical education, research, medical journalism, drug safety, and rational drug use promotion, reports Statetimes.
Dr Tandon has previously been awarded notable fellowships and memberships, including FRCP (Edinburgh) UK, FRCP (Glasgow) UK, FIMS, FIMSA, MAMS, and CIMP. He is also a permanent member of the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). Dr Tandon serves as a national expert on committees such as the Subject Expert Committee and the Periodic Safety Update Reports (PSUR) Review Committee at the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) under the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
In addition to his national contributions, Dr Tandon has been recognized on an international scale, recently serving as a resource person for training Bhutan's Drug Regulatory Authorities. He is also the editor-in-chief of JK Science and previously held the same role for the Journal of Midlife Health. With over 216 research publications and 18 book chapters, Dr Tandon has left a lasting impact on the medical community.
Dr Tandon’s expertise extends to being a DNB and National Medical Commission expert, as nominated by the National Board of Examinations. His contributions are further acknowledged by his involvement in various scientific societies, professional bodies, and universities across India.
This honour recognizes not just Dr Tandon’s achievements, but also brings pride to the entire state of Jammu & Kashmir. His work continues to influence the fields of medical research, patient care, and drug safety at both national and international levels.
