GMERS Dermatology resident doctor drowns in Narmada canal during outing

Vadodara: In a tragic incident, a 26-year-old resident doctor at GMERS Medical College and Hospital in Gotri reportedly drowned in a Narmada Canal near Bhimpura village on Monday morning while on an outing with two friends.
The deceased, a native of Khambhat, was a third-year resident pursuing dermatology at GMERS Medical College and Hospital.

According to hospital authorities, he had gone to the canal with two friends when he reportedly slipped and fell into the water. His friends raised an alarm, following which efforts were made to locate him. His body was eventually fished out of the canal and taken to the hospital.
GMERS Medical College and Hospital superintendent Dr Anup Chandnani confirmed the incident. “The resident doctor was brought dead to the hospital. He was in the third year of his dermatology course,” he said.
According to TOI, “It was his birthday, and he had gone out with two of his friends for an outing. Both his friends are not from our institute,” Chandnani added.
A postmortem examination was conducted at the hospital following the incident. After completion of the formalities, his body was handed over to his parents.
Upon learning of the incident, the family members of the deceased doctor rushed to Gotri Hospital. The grief of the family members filled the hospital premises with sadness. On the other hand, the news of the doctor's sudden death also spread a sense of grief in the medical community of the hospital, reports Nava Gujarat Samay.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that in a tragic incident, a Gandhinagar-based paediatrician drowned in the Adalaj Narmada canal while performing a religious ritual with his seven-year-old daughter. He reportedly slipped and was swept away by a strong current. The deceased, a resident of Anashya Greens Society in Vavol, Gandhinagar, had taken his daughter to the canal to help her immerse offerings as part of the Gauri Vrat ritual.
