Govt appoints Radiologist, Paediatrician, Orthopaedic surgeon at Keylong district hospital
The seven posts lying vacant at the hospital include a gynaecologist, general surgeon, orthopaedic surgeon, ENT, paediatrician, eye specialist and anaesthetist.
Mandi: Three specialist doctors have been appointed by the State Government at the Keylong district hospital, informed through a recent notification. There were seven vacant posts of specialist doctors at the hospital.
The hospital was facing an acute shortage of specialist doctors as two doctors (a medicine specialist and a paediatrician) were gone for higher studies. After numerous complaints from the local residents, the state government appointed three doctors, including a radiologist, a paediatrician, and an orthopaedic surgeon.
The seven posts including a gynaecologist, general surgeon, orthopaedic surgeon, ENT, paediatrician, eye specialist and anaesthetist were lying vacant at the hospital.

As a result of the lack of doctors at the hospital, the residents of Lahaul valley had been neglected and received poor healthcare services for months. Now, they have thanked the government for implementing the decision.
Kunga Bodh, a member of Zila Parishad Lahaul and Spiti, told The Tribune "We urge the government to fill the remaining four posts also. These posts are for gynaecologist, general surgeon, ENT and anaesthetist. There is a need to strengthen health services in Lahaul."
Earlier before the decision was passed, Kunga Bodh said "The residents are lacking the basic health facilities. X-ray, ultrasound and CT scan machines are lying idle due to the unavailability of radiologists. Patients have to travel a long distance from Lahaul to reach Kullu to conduct the tests. Due to the poor health services, critically ill patients are being referred to the Kullu hospital," he said.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that the central government plans to release Rs 400 crore to Himachal Pradesh under the Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (ABHIM) scheme. An MoU has been signed between the State Government and the Union Health Minister regarding this.
