Govt Suspends Two Doctors for Medical Negligence
Srinagar: Taking serious cognizance of the alleged botched surgery, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has suspended two doctors who were accused of medical negligence by mistakenly removing the uterus of a patient, who had been admitted for an ENT surgery.
Issuing an order, the Government suspended Dr. Nazir, consultant Gynaecologist at SDH Sopore, and Dr. Dar, the Medical Officer (Diploma in Anaesthesia), DH Bandipora. The operation theatre of the private hospital in Sopore was also sealed after the alleged incident, Kashmir Reader has reported.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported how a Kashmir-based doctor had been accused of allegedly removing a woman's uterus instead of performing an ENT surgery at Hakeem Sonuallah Hospital in Sopore.
Soon, the news of the botched surgery went viral on social media and resulted in widespread public outrage with activists and residents demanding a lifetime ban on the doctor's private practice.
Consequently, the Health Department took cognizance of the issue. It started investigating the matter and a team of officials also raided the concerned hospital to investigate the allegations made against the doctor.
Now the Government has suspended two doctors in this connection and banned them from engaging in any form of private practice across Jammu & Kashmir until further orders. It has also been stated in the order that the operation theatre of Hakeem Sonuallah Hospital would remain sealed until the completion of the investigation.
"Pending enquiry into the incident that occurred on 03.02.2025 at Hakeem Sonaullah Hospital, Sopore and to ensure a fair and impartial investigation while maintaining the integrity of the healthcare system, the following doctors are hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect and shall remain attached with Directorate of Health Services, Jammu till further orders..." stated the Health Department order dated 06.02.2025.
"Furthermore, it is hereby ordered that the aforementioned doctors are prohibited/banned from engaging in any form of private practice within entire Jammu & Kashmir," the order added.
"Additionally, Operation theater of Hakeem Sonaullah Hospital, Sopore, shall remain sealed till the conclusion of the enquiry," it added.
