Haryana Medical officer, peon arrested on bribery charges

Chandigarh: A medical officer and a peon posted at a Civil Hospital in Rewari have been arrested on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15000 from a patient's attendant in lieu of increasing the disability percentage.
It was caught red-handed by the Haryana Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) when the peon was accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 on behalf of a medical officer from the complainant.
The peon engaged under the outsourced policy was demanding a bribe in the name of the medical officer. As a result, he was taken into police custody along with the medical officer.

The operation to nab the duo red-handed was a preplanned move by the ACB after they received the tip-off from the complainant who alleged that the peon was demanding Rs 20,000 as a bribe from him for enhancing the disability percentage of his mother from 50 per cent to 65 per cent.
According to a spokesperson of the ACB, the peon was demanding a bribe on behalf of the medical officer and had already taken Rs 5,000 for the same. Following this, they sent the complainant on the scheduled day to hand over the rest of the amount.
When the peon fell into their trap, the ACB team caught him immediately and found that the peon was accepting bribe on behalf of the medical officer.
Explaining the matter, the spokesperson of the ACB informed The Statesman "A medical officer has also been arrested as the accused peon Rahul, who was hired through outsourcing, was demanding bribes on the former’s behalf. Both the accused have been nabbed on the complaint of Amit Kumar, a resident of district Rewari."
