Hindu Rao Dean, Prof Dr Saudan Singh honored with 'Doctor of Science' by HNB Uttarakhand Medical Education University
New Delhi: In recognization of outstanding and unrivaled contribution to Medical and Health Sciences in the promotion of patient care, teaching, training and research to the nation and across the world, eminent Professor, Dr Saudan Singh has been conferred upon with the degree of 'Doctor of Science' (D.Sc.) (Honoris Causer) by the H.N.B Uttarakhand Medical Education University, Dehradun. Dr Saudan Singh is presently serving as the Dean North Delhi Municipal Corporation Medical College & Hindu Rao Hospital
Dr Singh was honored with the title at the third convocation held on October 8, 2020, considering all his continuous effort for over 3 decades to develop the Medical Science in India.
Professor Dr. Saudan Singh completed his M.B.B.S. degree from B.R.D. Medical College, Gorakhpur, and MD in Community Medicine from "All India Institute of Medical Science" (AIIMS), New Delhi. He completed his Ph.D. from the Department of Public Health, Osaka University Medical School, Japan.
In his over 31 years of administrative and academic experience, he was the Director, National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) and National Biomedical Centre of ICMR at Safdarjung Hospital, Director General of Medical Education & Training, Government of Uttar Pradesh, Director, Rural Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Saifai U.P., Principal, S.N. Medical College Agra, Principal, B.R.D Medical College, Gorakhpur, Head of Department of Community Medicine at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) & Safdarjung Hospital and Professor of Community Medicine, Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi.
He has served as the Chairman and Advisor of many reputed committees such as the National Institute of Health & Family Welfare (NIHFW), New Delhi and Chairman/Member Selection Committees in various Institutes/Medical Colleges, Member, Technical Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Science & Technology, Department of Science & Technology for SOT Communication on Innovation and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics).
He was also appointed as the Nodal Officer to provide technical inputs to the Empowered Committee under the North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy in 2007 by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
In his illustrious career, Dr Singh has also published and presented more than a hundred research papers in National and International journals and given scientific presentations at National and International conferences.
As the Vice-Chancellor, Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Medical Education University, Uttarakhand, and Vice-Chancellor of Ayurveda University, Dehradun, he was responsible for streamlining the UG and PG medical education and improving the standards of academics at these universities. In recognition of his contributions and for his work done in NEST UG counseling in 2017, His Excellency, the then Governor of Uttarakhand, Mr. K.K. Paul gave a letter of commendation to Prof. Saudan Singh.
