Homoeopathic doctor arrested for allopathic practice after 6-year-old's death

Ratlam: In a shocking case of alleged medical negligence, a 6-year-old girl suffering from fever died hours after receiving an injection from a homoeopathic doctor who was practising as an allopathic practitioner for a decade and administered treatments without proper knowledge at his clinic.

Despite not having the required license, he had reportedly been administering injections and IV drips to his patients. The doctor who is not certified to conduct allopathic treatments is reported to have been practising for over a decade.

He had been running the clinic from a rented room in Ratlam and was also working as a homoeopathy teacher at a private university.

The police arrested him on Tuesday night after he fled the clinic and went into hiding. Based on the preliminary investigation, the clinic was also sealed by the police authorities.

According to a report by the Free Press Journal, this is the second such incident linked to the same clinic. The first occurred in 2019, when a 30-year-old man, who had complained of pain in his hands and legs, died during treatment at the facility.

The matter came to light after the 6-year-old girl had developed a fever on Tuesday. Her family took her to a nearby clinic where the accused, who was running the facility, gave her an injection without any proper check-up or tests.

Soon after receiving the injection, she started vomiting, and her condition deteriorated. Her family rushed her back to the clinic, but she passed away around 1 pm. Her body was sent for post-mortem to Ratlam Medical College, and she was cremated later that evening.

Following this, her family alerted the police, who arrived at the clinic along with the health officials. During their investigation, it was found that the accused was not qualified to give allopathic treatment. He holds a homoeopathy degree but has been treating patients using allopathic methods for over 10 years.

Digging deeper into the patient history, the officials came to know that a 30-year-old man named Ramesh Charel also died during treatment there. He had complained of pain in his hands and legs and died on the spot.

After the child's death, the accused fled the clinic, but was later arrested by police from the Raoti police station on Tuesday night. He is currently being questioned.
