Hyderabad doctor loses Rs 3 lakh in fake Char Dham helicopter booking scam

Hyderabad: A Hyderabad-based doctor allegedly lost more than Rs 3 lakh after falling victim to an online fraud involving a fake helicopter booking for the Char Dham Yatra. The Cybercrime Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
According to the complaint, the 60-year-old doctor was planning the pilgrimage with his family when he came across an advertisement on Instagram offering helicopter services for the Char Dham Yatra. After contacting the phone number provided in the advertisement, he was allegedly informed about a helicopter package for six people that included a three-night, four-day itinerary.
Believing the offer to be genuine, the doctor transferred over Rs 3 lakh in multiple transactions towards the booking. To make the package appear authentic, the fraudster allegedly sent emails containing helicopter tickets, hotel booking confirmations and VVIP darshan details.
The fraud came to light when the doctor contacted the hotel and the helicopter service provider before the scheduled journey to verify the reservation. He was reportedly informed that no booking had been made in his name with either the hotel or the helicopter operator.
According to Telangana Today, “To make the booking appear authentic, the fraudster sent emails containing alleged helicopter tickets, hotel reservation details and VVIP darshan confirmations,” police said.
Based on the doctor's complaint, the Hyderabad Cybercrime Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the alleged fraud.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a retired Civil Hospital doctor was allegedly swindled out of Rs 1.42 crore in a fake digital arrest scam, during which fraudsters reportedly kept him under mental duress for nearly 18 days by claiming that he was being questioned as part of an official investigation into anti-national activities.
