Hyderabad: Nizamia Unani Medical College Doctors protest over discriminatory hiring practices
The doctors alleged that the Central and state government's decision was discriminatory as they implemented the national health mission without considering the Unani fraternity or its representatives.
Hyderabad: Doctors and students associated with Government Nizamia Unani Medical College and Hospital recently staged a protest against the Telangana government, opposing the discriminatory recruitment process for medical fertility practitioners.
The doctors alleged that the Central and state government's decision was discriminatory as they implemented the national health mission without considering the Unani fraternity or its representatives.
The protesting doctors also raised anti-TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samithi, the party in power in Telangana), alleging that they overlooked the Unani doctors during the recruitment process, reports the Hans India.
The Government Nizamia Tibbi College is an Unani medicine college located in Hyderabad in Telangana, which was started by an Afghan scholar, Sajida Begum Masjid. The college is affiliated with KNR University of Health Sciences in Telangana.
Unani medicine is a Perso-Arabic traditional medicine practiced in Muslim culture in South Asia and modern-day Central Asia. The Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), a statutory body established in 1971 under the Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy (AYUSH), monitors higher education in areas of Indian medicine, including Ayurveda, Unani, and other traditional medical systems.
Recently, around 40 Telangana-based first-year MBBS students held another protest in Hyderabad, alleging that the question papers for the supplementary exam were not set as per the norms set by the National Medical Commission (NMC), the Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported as well. Gathering at Osmania Medical College at around 4.30 PM on Friday, the students belonging to Osmania, Gandhi, TRR, and Bhaskar Medical Colleges alleged irregularities in the process of conducting the supplementary examinations by Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS).
Revu is currently pursuing her masters from University of Hyderabad. With a background in journalism, she joined Medical Dialogues in 2021.
