"Around 20 to 50 people barged into the emergency on the night of September 21 and sought medico-legal reports (MLRs) to be filed by us. I was threatened that I would be suspended by morning if I don't comply.''

Jalandhar: Days after MLA Sheetal Angural's brother Rajan Angural and the supporters of MLA Raman Arora created a stir and vandalized the emergency ward at the Jalandhar civil hospital, the doctors and nursing staff of the hospital staged a protest against the same, demanding the registration of an FIR against the accused.

They demanded that based on the complaint already given to the police, which also mentioned the name of MLA Sheetal Angural's brother Rajan Angural, an FIR should be registered.

The PCMS Association (PCMSA) in Jalandhar demanded an FIR to be registered against the accused, including Rajan, who created a ruckus at the hospital on Wednesday night, by 8 am on Saturday, threatening to go on a strike otherwise.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night when the supporters of MLA Arora went to the hospital at midnight to receive medico-legal reports after a fight with deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Naresh Dogra. Rajan , along with his supporters, also reached the place. According to Dr. Harveen Kaur, the Emergency Medical Officer, who was on duty when Angural's supporters entered the hospital, Rajan asked her to exaggerate the injuries which she refused, following which he allegedly threatened to suspend her.

Dr. Kaur said, "Around 20 to 50 people barged into the emergency on the night of September 21 and sought medico-legal reports (MLRs) to be filed by us. I was threatened that I would be suspended by morning if I don't comply. The main threats were made by Rajan Angural. But we stuck to the procedure, and requisite MLRs of four people were filed. The doors of the minor OT were also broken, and property vandalized. Both the doctors and medical superintendent have made a formal complaint with the police."

Meanwhile, it has been reported that MLA Raman Arora went to the office of medical superintendent Dr. Rajiv Sharma during the day and tendered an apology to doctors on behalf of Rajan Angural. He also met the in-charge of the emergency ward, Dr. Harveen Kaur. But the doctors are demanding a personal apology from Rajan himself. The MLA then sought 72 hours and assured that Rajan Angural would personally apologize by then.

The MLA held a meeting with the doctors at the office of the MS Civil Hospital, Jalandhar, along with those who were involved in the incident. The meeting saw the presence of MS Rajeev Sharma, Jalandhar, AAP MLA Raman Arora, Dr. Harveen Kaur, and the PCMSA Jalandhar unit, led by Dr. Vaninder Riar, reports the Tribune India.

The doctors were planning to intensify their protest, however, it was deferred for the time after receiving the MLA's apology. Dr. Kaur told the Times of India, "We have deferred intensifying our agitation till Tuesday as MLA Arora has not only apologized on Rajan's behalf but also assured that the latter would come to the hospital that day to apologize in person."

A statement released by the affected doctors and the PCMSA stated, "The affected doctor and the PCMSA have refused to buckle under any kind of pressure and had decided not to withdraw their complaint. On the contrary, PCMSA has strongly demanded that the FIR be filed at the earliest."

DCP Naresh Dogra was shifted to Punjab Armed Police as assistant inspector general, and a compromise was made between Dogra and MLA Raman Arora on Thursday evening.
