Ranchi: In a disturbing incident, a Jharkhand-based ENT specialist has received an anonymous phone call and text message from Dubai demanding Rs 2 crore as extortion. The doctor lodged a complaint, prompting the police to initiate an investigation, officials said on Monday.
The victim, identified as ENT specialist Dr Samit Lal, filed the complaint at Ranchi's Argora police station, stating that he was threatened with death through a phone call and text message.
"Dr Lal has mentioned in his complaint that he received a death threat and a demand for Rs 2 crore via call and message," said Argora police station in-charge Anil Kumar Tiwari, news agency PTI reported.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in a disturbing incident, a 23-year-old doctor was allegedly blackmailed, assaulted, and extorted by a man he met on a dating platform. The incident came to light after the victim lodged a complaint with the Madhapur police, leading to the registration of a case and the launch of an investigation. According to the complaint, the victim had been chatting with the accused for nearly two weeks on the dating app Grindr before agreeing to meet in person. On the evening of September 21, he visited a paying guest (PG) accommodation in Ayyappa Society, where the accused had invited him.
