The 29 year old doctor, a resident of the Adityapur S-type- 81 under Seraikela Kharswan district, used a licensed gun and tried to shoot himself from a point blank range on his head. While calling it a suicide bid, a police official told The Pioneer, "We are investigating the incident and it is too early to speak on what led to such a drastic step by the victim. As per our initial probe it seems to be a case of suicide attempt. We are looking at all other aspects too. The arm he used was his own licensed gun. We came to know that the doctor was engaged and was scheduled to be married in November this year,"
They believe he has been facing mental health issues since the past few days according to the preliminary investigation reports, added the daily.
The doctor whose marriage was scheduled in November and who had completed his internship at the MGM hospital, had started working as a junior doctor at the medicine department in the same hospital and as a consultant at a private nursing home in Jugsalai.
While expressing shock at the incident, Mrityunjay Singh, the former IMA Jamshedpur Chapter told Times of India that he was unaware of the reason behind the doctor's actions.
The doctors at the hospital also expressed their grief. The police are investigating the case further and are waiting for him to recover to record his statements, reports The Avenue Mail.
