Jodhpur: In an unfortunate incident, Dr Rajeev Gehlot, a renowned senior cardiologist and consultant at Vasundhara Hospital, Jodhpur passed away from cardiac shock while undergoing treatment for dengue on Tuesday morning. His platelet count had fallen to a critical level of 18,000.
The doctor was suffering from a high fever for the past few days and was brought to the hospital on Monday. However, his condition showed no signs of improvement and was deteriorating drastically.
Subsequently, the doctors at the hospital in charge of Dr Gehlot's treatment conducted blood tests which revealed that he was suffering from dengue and his platelet count had dropped to 18,000. However, on Tuesday morning, he went into cardiac shock and died at 5 am.

"He went into cardiac shock in the morning and passed away during treatment. His reports were normal, but symptoms pointed to Dengue leading to drop in platelets count to 18,000," a doctor from the hospital told TOI.
Dr Rajeev Gehlot was an expert in treating complex congenital heart conditions and various adult cardiac surgeries. He had vast experience in doing over 5000 cardiovascular & thoracic surgeries in the last 12 years at different centres across India.
He was highly skilled in performing procedures on the heart, lungs, oesophagus, and other organs in the chest. Congenital heart conditions refer to defects in the heart that are present at birth, such as holes in the heart or abnormal valves.
In addition to congenital heart surgeries, he was proficient in performing a wide range of adult cardiac surgeries. This may include coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), heart valve replacement or repair, and heart transplant surgery.
Dr Gehlot was originally from Jodhpur. He completed his education at Dr Sampurnanand Medical College in Jodhpur. He served as a cardiac surgeon for a long time at MDM Hospital and worked at a private hospital in Jaipur before joining Vasundhara Hospital in Jodhpur.
"With deep sadness, we mourn the loss of Dr. Rajeev Gehlot, a pillar of our medical community. His exceptional skills, compassion, and unwavering dedication to patient care saved countless lives and brought hope to many. A true healer, now at rest, Dr Gehlot’s legacy will continue to inspire our team and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. We honor his memory and commitment to excellence. Rest in peace, Dr. Gehlot. You will be profoundly missed," Medipulse Hospital wrote in a post on Instagram.
