Junagadh Doctor falls victim to Govt Job Scam, Loses Rs 50 Lakh

Fraud
Rajkot: In a shocking case of fraud, a homoeopathy doctor from Junagadh and his wife were allegedly duped of more than Rs 50 lakh by an Ahmedabad-based couple, who promised them lucrative government contracts and a clerical job in the state secretariat.
According to police reports, the accused, residents of Nikol in Ahmedabad, have been detained and are currently being interrogated.
The victims lodged a complaint at the Junagadh City B Division Police Station, detailing how the accused allegedly gained their trust over several months. The doctor has been practising at Jai Sardar Trust Hospital near Joshipura Vegetable Market for the past 25 years.

He promised the doctor and his wife a subcontract for maintaining trees along the Delhi Highway Corridor divider — a government project — and also assured them that he could secure a clerical position in the secretariat for one of their relatives.
From October 2023 to June 2024, the couple transferred more than Rs 50 lakh to the accused through both cash and bank transactions. In a calculated move to strengthen their deceit, the accused even paid the family Rs 73,500 as a "salary" for the promised clerical job.
Suspicion first arose in April when the accused issued a cheque of Rs 33 lakh, which later bounced due to a stop-payment request. Shortly after the incident, the accused couple switched off their phones and vacated their residence, raising further doubts about their intentions.

Speaking to TOI, Investigation officer Aniruddhsinh Gohil said the couple has been detained from Junagadh. "We are questioning them and gathering evidence to recover the cheated money," he said.
