Chikkamagaluru: In a shocking incident, an on-duty government doctor collapsed in the operation theatre moments before performing multiple tubectomy surgeries. An inquiry into the case was ordered after it was found that the latter was allegedly under the influence of alcohol during duty hours.
The doctor is a gynaecologist who was deputed to Karnataka’s Kalasa Taluk hospital to conduct a tubectomy camp and was found sleeping in the operation theatre from the morning of the day of surgery.

This incident happened when nine women patients were scheduled to undergo sterilization surgery at the hospital and while the surgery was scheduled to take place at 2 pm, it is reported that the patients were given anesthesia around 8 am. Before starting the operation, the doctor was drunk and passed out in the operation theatre, India Today reports.
At the same time, the relatives of the patients demanded strict action against the doctor. It came to light that the doctor was caught inebriated state several times before, but no action was taken by the management of Chikkamagalur Hospital in this regard.
It has been revealed that a complaint has been made to the higher authorities on the latest incident.
Later, Chikkamagaluru District Health Officer Dr Umesh ordered an inquiry into the incident based on the order of Health Minister Dines Gundu Rao, who also directed Dr Umesh to suspend the doctor.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that by taking stringent action against two doctors who had been found guilty of medical negligence and misconduct, the Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) suspended their licenses by removing them from the medical register for a period of 6 and 3 months and taking away their permanent registration certificate for the duration of the punishment imposed.
