Kerala Govt Doctor arrested for taking Rs 5000 bribe for hernia surgery
Kottayam: A doctor working at a government hospital in Kerala's Kottayam district was arrested by the Vigilance wing of the Kerala police for allegedly accepting cash as a bribe from a patient for hernia surgery.
The vigilance team on Monday evening arrested Sujith Kumar, a doctor of the Kanjirappally Taluk hospital near here while accepting Rs 3,000 as a bribe.

Vigilance sources said the doctor had sought a Rs 5,000 bribe from the patient for a hernia operation.
"The operation was conducted on August 18. Before that he had called the patient home and received Rs 2000," Vigilance said.
The complaint was filed by the son of the patient after the doctor sought the remaining Rs 3,000.
The arrest was made by a team led by Vigilance Deputy SP.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that 48-year-old nursing orderly of GB Pant Hospital had been arrested by the Delhi Government's Anti-Corruption Branch for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 25,000 to get an injured patient admitted to the adjacent LNJP hospital.
The accused had been identified as Rasheed Ahmed, resident of staff quarters, GB Pant Hospital, working as Nursing Orderly in the Endoscopy department of the facility.
The matter came to light when a 62-year-old resident of Geeta Colony approached Anti-Corruption Branch with the grievance that on August 18, Mukesh Kumar, who was hired as a labourer by him, was injured during the construction work at his house.
Madhur Verma, Additional Commissioner of Police (Anti-Corruption Branch), said that after due verification, a team was constituted under the supervision of ACP Subodh Kumar, and the team laid a trap in GB Pant Hospital on Monday and accused Rasheed Ahmed was trapped red-handed in the presence of independent witnesses while receiving the part of remaining bribe amount Rs 10,000.
