Kerala Medical College Teachers to intensify protest, boycott OPDs from February 16
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA) has decided to intensify its ongoing protest from February 16 over pending demands, including the rectification of anomalies in the pay revision order.
While acknowledging that some partial positive steps have been taken, the association stated that the majority of its demands remain unresolved.
The doctors will launch an indefinite boycott of outpatient services along with a suspension of academic activities. KGMCTA has announced a revised schedule of protests following a decision taken by its Central Executive Committee on February 9, 2026.
As part of the plan, faculty members will begin with a candlelight demonstration at all government medical colleges on February 11 at 6.30 pm. The agitation is set to intensify from February 19, with an open-ended withdrawal from non-emergency surgeries and elective procedures, even as the OPD and academic boycotts continue, alongside a march and protest to the Secretariat.
From February 25, faculty members will also indefinitely abstain from university examination-related duties, while maintaining the earlier boycotts. The association has clarified that emergency medical services will remain fully operational throughout the agitation.
Previously, Medical Dialogues reported that, disappointed over the neglect of its long-pending demands, including pay revision and the disbursement of salary and Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears, KGMCTA, which had begun a boycott of outpatient services, decided to suspend its strike for a week after the government had sought time to review its pending demands. Previously, the association announced an indefinite strike from February 2 by boycotting OPD services. However, after assurances of the order regarding the entry cadre anomaly correction were promised, the strike was called off.
KGMCTA has been on protest since July 1, 2025 alleging failure of the government authorities to honour the assurances given over the years on various long-pending demands including rectification of anomalies in the pay revision order, disbursement of salary and Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears, avoidance of temporary and mass transfers, and creation of adequate faculty posts, sufficient facilities for faculty and patients.
