Kidney Trafficking Case: Chandrapur Court defers bail hearing of Delhi-based Doctor

Chandrapur Court Defers Bail Hearing of Doctor in International Kidney Racket
Chandrapur: The Chandrapur sessions court on Monday deferred by a day the hearing on the interim bail plea of a Delhi-based doctor, one of the prime accused in an alleged kidney trafficking racket with international links.
The matter will now be heard on Tuesday, as investigators said the probe has reached a crucial stage.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that a fake doctor from Solapur had been arrested in connection with an international kidney trafficking racket that allegedly sent poor villagers from Maharashtra to Cambodia for illegal kidney removal.
According to the news reports, the accused, a Delhi-based doctor, had earlier been granted interim bail in connection with the kidney transplant case, in line with a transit remand order issued by a Delhi court.
A hearing on the continuation of his interim bail was scheduled before the Chandrapur sessions court on Monday. But as his counsel failed to appear, the court adjourned proceedings. Police added that SIT is preparing to place crucial evidence before the court against the doctor at the next hearing, reports TOI.
The racket came to light following the ordeal of a marginal farmer from Minthur village in Nagbhid taluka of Chandrapur district. Burdened by debt, the farmer allegedly sold one of his kidneys after falling prey to illegal moneylenders. Investigators said a loan of around Rs 1 lakh ballooned to nearly Rs 74 lakh due to exorbitant interest rates. Despite selling land, vehicles, and household assets, he was unable to repay the amount, leading to his extreme decision.
