Andhra Pradesh Kidney Transplant Racket: Govt medical officer among 6 arrested

Accused Arrested
Madanapalle: A government medical officer was among six individuals arrested in connection with a kidney transplant racket operating at Global Multispecialty Hospitals in Madanapalle in Annamayya district. The arrests follow the tragic death of a 29-year-old woman during an illegal kidney removal procedure.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that in a shocking incident, a 29-year-old woman passed away during an illegal kidney removal at a hospital in Madanapalle, Annamayya district, Andhra Pradesh, exposing a suspected organ trade network across the state. Authorities have sealed the hospital and taken twelve people, including two doctors, into custody in connection with the case.

Preliminary police investigation revealed that two women from Visakhapatnam were lured for the illegal kidney transplantation at the Global multi-speciality hospital, and two kidney transplants exercises were carried out by a team of "on-hire" expert doctors, who came from Bengaluru, reports TOI.
Annamayya district SP Dheeraj Kanubilli confirmed that four dedicated police teams are conducting thorough investigations into the racket across Goa, Karnataka, and Telangana.
Six individuals have been arrested, including the hospital owner, managers of dialysis centres at government hospitals, and key agents involved in coordinating the illegal operations.

“The Bengaluru-based doctor involved in the procedure will be arrested soon,” the Deputy SP said, adding that eight more accused were yet to be arrested. The investigation would be expedited based on technical and material evidence, Mr. Mahendra said, reports the Hindu.
