Kidney Trafficking Probe: Delhi doctor not cooperating, says police

Illegal Organ Trade
Chandrapur: Investigations into an alleged kidney trafficking racket have intensified in Chandrapur, with a Delhi-based doctor, identified as one of the prime accused, reportedly refusing to cooperate despite appearing daily before police under court-ordered conditions.
According to police sources, the doctor has been reporting to Chandrapur police in compliance with directions issued by the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court, which granted him conditional anticipatory bail. However, officers claim he has repeatedly responded with “I don’t remember” to key questions, slowing the progress of the probe. Authorities are now considering submitting a formal report to the court regarding his alleged lack of cooperation.

Investigators claimed that the doctor charged Rs 35 lakh to travel from Delhi to perform the transplant in Trichy. However, police claim he has failed to provide satisfactory details regarding the distribution of the money or the broader network allegedly involved in the trafficking operation.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that the Chandrapur sessions court had deferred by a day the hearing on the interim bail plea of a Delhi-based doctor, one of the prime accused in an alleged kidney trafficking racket with international links. Investigators said the probe has reached a crucial stage and have booked the accused, along with the managing director of a private hospital in Trichy, under Sections 18 and 19 of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994.
