Kidney Transplant Racket: Chennai-Based Surgeon Arrested
Hyderabad: In connection with the ongoing investigation into the illegal kidney transplant racket at Alkananda Multi-Speciality Hospital, Rachakonda police arrested a surgeon from Chennai on Sunday. The doctor is suspected of being involved in illegal kidney transplants and has been named in the confessions of other individuals arrested in the case.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that following the recent discovery of an illegal kidney transplant racket at Alkananda Multi-Speciality Hospital in Rangareddy, the alleged role of two doctors in the racket who were brought in from other states to assist with the surgeries on recipients is now under police investigation.
As per the recent media report by The Hindu, the doctor has been identified as Rajashekhar. A special police team had been camping in Chennai for the past few days, looking for him as his name had cropped up in the confessions of the other accused arrested in the case.
The doctor is believed to have played a key role in the illicit kidney transplant operations, which were allegedly carried out at Janani Hospital in Hyderabad. Investigators are looking into reports that he performed kidney transplants at the facility, and are verifying the details with the hospital administration. Further inquiries have revealed that the doctor had previously been arrested in Andhra Pradesh in a separate criminal case, prompting authorities to explore the possibility that he may have been involved in similar kidney racket activities in the state.
