KIMS Principal Dr BC Bhagawan appointed as new RGUHS-VC

Bengaluru: Dr BC Bhagawan, Principal and Professor of General Surgery at Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Bengaluru, has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS).

His appointment marks a significant milestone as he becomes the first principal from a private medical college to hold the prestigious position as a full-time employee. His tenure begins following the completion of Dr. MK Ramesh’s term, which ended on February 10.

Dr. Bhagawan's selection followed a highly competitive process, with approximately 30 applicants, including principals of government and private medical colleges, officials of the Medical Education Department, and directors of hospitals, competing for the position.

As per TOI news report, the search committee, chaired by former Rani Channamma University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ramachandragowda, shortlisted three candidates: Dr. Ravikumar BC, Principal of Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences; Dr. Nalini GK, Professor and Head of Pharmacology at Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College and Research Institute; and Dr. Bhagawan. Ultimately, Dr. Bhagawan was chosen for the role.

In his welcome note as the new VC, Dr Bhagawan said, "A warm and heartfelt welcome to each one of you to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka! As I assume the honour of serving as Vice Chancellor, it is a privilege to be part of this prestigious institution that plays such a critical role in shaping the future of healthcare in India. Our university stands as a symbol of excellence in medical education, research, and service to society. With our rich legacy and commitment to academic rigor, we continue to set high standards in health sciences education and healthcare delivery."
