Police said the operation was carried out on the instructions of City Police Commissioner Putta Vimaladitya.
Speaking to TNIE, an officer with the Ernakulam North police station said, Though residing in Kochi, Amjad reportedly travelled back to Vadakkekara after duty hours. Police are now working to trace the source of the contraband. “The quantity seized is less than one gram, which qualifies for station bail under the NDPS Act. However, given the seriousness of a medical professional’s involvement, we intend to produce him before the court.”
It was led by Narcotics Cell Assistant Commissioner K A Abdulsalam.
Ahasan studied medicine in Ukraine, served as a house surgeon at Ernakulam General Hospital and later worked as a doctor at a private hospital, police added.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a shocking drug peddling racket was busted by the Hyderabad police, resulting in the arrest of nine persons, including a general surgeon from a private hospital and drug peddlers, for allegedly selling and purchasing a synthetic drug named MDMA. Around 100 grams of MDMA were seized from them.
MDMA, or 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, is a synthetic drug with stimulant and minor psychedelic effects, often known as ecstasy or molly. The arrested doctor, along with 6 others, are consumers of the drug, and the other two are drug peddlers who targeted same sex people for selling.
