Kolkata doctor, husband attacked after minor road collision

Kolkata: In a shocking case of road rage, a doctor and her husband were allegedly harassed and assaulted following a minor accident on Narkeldanga Main Road last Sunday afternoon.

The police have arrested the main accused and are investigating whether the incident was staged to extort money.

According to police reports, the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. when the couple was driving their car and encountered a biker riding without a helmet. The biker reportedly made a sudden right turn without signalling, causing the car to collide with the rear tyre of the bike.

The doctor stated that her husband immediately apologised, explaining that the accident was unintentional. However, the biker allegedly responded with aggression- slapping the doctor’s husband and seizing his car keys. He is also accused of using abusive language and threatening to summon a mob.

In a bid to document it, the victim took a photograph of the bike and car, which led to further threats from one of the two associates of Chowdhury who had by then joined him to demand "compensation". A woman accompanying the biker also reportedly opened a car door and issued threats, reports TOI.

The incident has sparked outrage and concern among citizens, highlighting once again the dangers of road rage.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that a 32-year-old doctor was allegedly attacked with sticks by two unidentified bikers following a heated exchange over driving behaviour in Farrukhnagar. The victim, Dr. Ravinder, runs JBMR Memorial Hospital in Farrukhnagar. The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. when the doctor was returning from Khurrampur village. According to the police complaint, two men with their faces covered by scarves abruptly stopped their motorcycle in front of the doctor's car close to Daboda Chowk.
