Kolkata doctor rape-murder case: Former RG Kar Forensic head hospitalized in critical condition
Kolkata: Debashish Shome, the former Head of the Forensic Department at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has been admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata due to high blood pressure and a low pulse rate.
Shome, who is under investigation by the CBI in connection with the rape and murder case of a female trainee doctor at the hospital, was admitted to the critical care unit of a multi-specialty hospital on Bypass on Saturday.
According to an UNI report, Shome was interrogated several times by the CBI and his house at Kestopur in North 24 Parganas was searched by the federal agency.
Meanwhile, four more alleged molestation cases, including that of a nurse and a minor girl in the past 24 hours, fueled the ongoing widespread protests across the state and beyond.
Police fired tear gas canisters after lathi charge failed to disperse an agitated mob of thousands protesting the alleged sexual molestation of a girl at Madhamgram in N 24 Parganas by a TMC activist on Saturday late evening. I
It was alleged that the accused person's wife, a Panchayat member wanted to settle the allegation amicably, which infuriated the protesters. Police resorted to lathi charge and lobbed tear gas shells after the irate mob ransacked the shop of the accused persons.
The area was still tense on Sunday and police enforcement was deployed to restore the confidence of the people, sources said.
A laboratory worker, accused of molesting a 13-year-old girl at the Howrah district hospital, was arrested last evening, which also infuriated the local people.
The youth wing of the CPI(M) - DYFI on Sunday gheraoed the hospital Superintendent Narayan Chatterjee for hours demanding his explanation for the alleged administrative failure of the hospital that led to a fresh molestation of a teen age girl even after August 9 incident in the RG Kar government hospital.
A nurse of a private nursing home at Illambazar in Birbhum was also allegedly molested by an indoor patient, which led to huge protest among the medical fraternity and nursing staff feeling insecure to attend duty in the night.
Accused patient, identified as Sk Asaudding around 8 PM on Saturday after rebuking the nurse on duty allegedly touched her body, news agency UNI reported.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Amit Malviya has alleged seven 7 rapes (mostly minors) and in some cases murders too, reported from Mamata Banerjee’s West Bengal in last 48 hours.
" But in the last 48 hours, Mamata Banerjee has been engaged in a very deplorable act, that a civilised Chief Minister would be ashamed of - from issuing open letters to clarifications, from threatening and abusing doctors to inciting nationwide arson. While the failed Home and Health Minister is preoccupied with suppressing evidences of her corruption and incompetence in the RG Kar rape and murder case, it is important to apprise her of the heinous atrocities unfolding in Bengal—atrocities she seems conveniently oblivious to." Malviya alleged on his X handle. He also listed where those happened since August 29.
Malviya, who is the cyber cell Chief of the BJP, stated that Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi replying to Banerjee’s second letter to PM, said," The information contained in your (Banerjee) letter in this regard is factually incorrect and appears to be a step in the direction to cover up the delays in operationalising the FTSCs by the State.”
The Union minister further said, “The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita has provision of completion of investigation that also includes forensic examination in cases of rape, within two months from the date of FIR and completion of trial within two months from the filing of charge sheet”. Another vain attempt of Mamata Banerjee to distract from the RG Kar rape and murder case, bites dust.," Malviya posted on his X account.
