Kullu woman doctor, 3 family members arrested in junior engineer murder case

Kullu: A doctor and three of her family members have been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of a Jal Shakti Department Junior Engineer, with police alleging that they conspired to kill him following a dispute over a suspected relationship.

According to the news reports, the accused include a woman doctor, posted at the Regional Hospital, Kullu, her husband, an Ayurvedic physician, father-in-law and brother-in-law.

Speaking to The Tribune, Superintendent of Police Madan Lal Kaushal said the case, which initially appeared to be a blind murder, was solved through a scientific investigation involving call detail records (CDRs), CCTV footage and other technical evidence. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Additional SP Sanjeev Chauhan investigated the case.

According to the police, the victim was allegedly called to the accused's residence at Gandhi Nagar on July 24 on the pretext of checking a water pipeline. Investigators alleged that a confrontation broke out after the accused allegedly questioned him over a suspected relationship with the woman doctor.

The police alleged that the dispute escalated into violence, resulting in the victim’s death. The accused allegedly later dumped the victim near a drain in an attempt to portray the incident as an accident.

The victim was found unconscious near the Jal Shakti Department office on the morning of July 25 and was taken to the Regional Hospital, Kullu. He was later referred to AIIMS Bilaspur, where he succumbed to his injuries on July 26.

The SIT used multiple sources of evidence, including mobile phone records, CCTV footage from different locations, and other scientific inputs, to reconstruct the events before and after the crime.

Police officials said the statement of the family’s domestic help also played an important role in establishing the timeline.

All four accused have been medically examined and produced before the court. The police said the murder was premeditated and allegedly motivated by suspicion over the victim’s relationship with the woman doctor. Further investigation is in progress, reports The Daily.
