Maha: Dermatologist attacked with iron rod at private hospital, 3 held
Aurangabad: In an incident of violence against medical professionals, three drunken people from the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) have been arrested for allegedly beating a doctor at a private hospital with an iron rod resulting in severe head injuries.
The accused reportedly barged into the hospital in an intoxicated state, created a ruckus, and thrashed the doctor brutally. The reason behind the violence is unknown and an investigation is underway.
A case was registered at the Kranti Chowk police station based on the statement of the doctor in connection with the matter.
The three accused were arrested after a preliminary investigation was conducted by the police, who inspected the CCTV footage of the area, which showed the three accused entering the hospital premises.
The incident took place on Thursday night when the MSRTC workers entered the hospital premises after completing their work for the election of the MSRTC Credit Co-operative Society election to be held on Friday. The hospital belongs to a doctor who is a dermatologist, reports Lokmat Times.
After creating a ruckus on the hospital grounds, they entered the hospital, abused and beat the doctor with an iron rod, leaving him with severe head injuries.
Following this incident, the doctor received support from former MP Chandrakant Khaire, former corporator Sachin Khaire and others who went to the police station and demanded PI Santosh Patil arrest the accused immediately.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that taking cognizance of the instances of increasing cases of violence against healthcare professionals, the Kerala branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) demanded that a systemic audit on hospital attacks in the state should be made and an action report should also be submitted every month.
