Maha: MBBS student goes missing from hostel, spotted in cave
Mumbai: A 23-year-old MBBS student who went missing after leaving his hostel was recently found inside a cave in Nashik after days of search. The medico was traced by railway police inside the Pandav Leni caves which is a famous Buddhist spiritual spot.
The medical student told the cops that he had been searching for a place to meditate as he wanted to convert to Buddhism and found the cave to be a perfect place for his stay. The student walked almost 50 kilometres on foot to reach the cave as he did not have enough money with him.
Currently, police have brought him back to the hostel.
As per the recent media report by the Times of India, the medical student belongs to Marathwada. On March 9th, he was spotted leaving the hostel wearing a lungi and a simple shawl.
However, he never returned after which his parents registered a missing complaint. When the security guard was questioned, he informed the police that he was the last one to see the student as he asked him to sign the register before leaving the hostel premises. He also rebuked the medico for not following the proper dress code as per the postal guidelines but the student made uttered some incomprehensive words and left the hostel.
The police conducted a thorough search to trace the medico. The railway crime branch also started investigating the possibilities of him travelling by train. The CCTV footage was also checked but he could not be traced.
According to the daily, when his friends were enquired about him, they mentioned that the medico had a deep spiritual aspiration, after which the hostel management started searching the several meditation centres across Navi Mumbai but in vain.
Later, the railway crime branch decided to visit Vipassana academy in Igatpuri to see if the medico has been staying in that place considering that it is a well-known meditation centre.
The assistant inspector Hemraj Sathe told TOI, "We found out that the youth had been to the Igatpuri centre. He had expressed his desire to convert to Buddhism. The academy staff told him they couldn't help him. He then left."
The crime branch finally got a lead on the case from one of the guards of the meditation centre, who told them that the medico had mentioned Pandav Leni — Buddhist caves at Nashik.
The crime branch team immediately visited the caves and found him resting inside. He had walked a distance of 50 km from the Igatpuri centre to Pandav Leni as he did not bring enough money with him. At the caves, he was offered food also. On Friday finally, the medico was handed over to the police who took the medico back to his hostel.
